When you’re going through the immigration process, you may be asked to provide a psychological evaluation. At Pathway Evaluations, our goal is to make this step as smooth, supportive, and stress-free as possible.
What is an Immigration Evaluation?
An immigration evaluation is a formal assessment conducted by a licensed mental health professional to document your psychological history, current mental health, and how your immigration situation affects your well-being. It can be an important part of your legal case for situations such as:
Extreme hardship waivers
Asylum cases
U visas
T Visa
VAWA cases (Violence Against Women Act)
Cancellation of removal
What to Expect During Your Evaluation
Initial Intake: We’ll talk about your background, personal history, and the reasons you’re seeking the evaluation. This is a safe, confidential space where you can share openly.
Detailed Interview: The clinician will ask questions about your life experiences, current challenges, and any emotional or physical symptoms you’re experiencing.
Standardized Questionnaires: You may complete short written assessments to help us better understand your mental health.
Review of Supporting Documents: If you have letters, medical records, or other documentation, you can bring them to your appointment.
Written Report: After your evaluation, we prepare a thorough report that meets legal and professional standards. This report is sent directly to your attorney or legal representative and you will be provided a copy
Tips to Prepare
Be honest and open
Bring any documents or notes that can help explain your experiences.
If you feel nervous, remember: our role is to support you, not judge you. Tell your clinician how you are feeling so they can give breaks as needed.
